Treekote wound dressing is made from an asphalt emulsion — a water-based suspension of asphalt particles that dries into a flexible, waterproof film over pruning cuts and tree wounds.
The asphalt emulsion base is what separates Treekote wound dressing from older petroleum-based wound paints. When dry, the asphalt emulsion creates a physical moisture barrier that also blocks fungal spores and sap-feeding beetles from entering exposed wood. Treekote grafting wax — sold under the Trowbridge's formula — uses a different composition entirely: rosin, beeswax, and tallow, which keeps the wax pliable across a wide temperature range and allows it to seat tightly against the cambium junction.
